Are you dreaming or awake? When you woke up today, what were your first thoughts? Most people wake up to an alarm clock, and immediately think of turning it off because they want a few more minutes of sleep; others wake up immediately and carry out a fixed routine of going to the bathroom, washing their face, brushing their teeth, thinking only about getting ready for a day of work. Now, there’s no harm in doing what you’ve always been doing, but have you ever asked yourself why you do these things? More importantly, have you been taking your morning ritual for granted? What if you didn’t wake up? Or what if you didn’t wake up in your bed, and you woke up in hospital, God Forbid! Have you ever appreciated the very gift of getting to open your eyes to a brand new day? Now that you’re probably wondering about the years you’ve been waking up and not spending a moment to wonder why, here is a beautiful thought; the fact that you woke up this morning, is a miracle. The moment you opened your eyes, and took that first glance at your surroundings is a blessing in disguise. Do you remember the first time you were blessed with this feeling? It was your birthday.

The day you were born is the biggest miracle of you life, why? Isn’t it obvious? Everything you have accomplished till this very moment, while you’re reading these words, is a result of the first day you began to feel alive. Way back then, your response to this blessing was crying bitterly, only a few of us come out quietly, but even we eventually begin howling and struggling to understand this new feeling called life. Some children still cry when they’re woken up, others literally throw tantrums until they realize, how blessed it is to feel alive.

What we fail to recognize is that every second we get to breathe is a blessing, there is no explanation to it, there is no reason for you to be alive, unless someone wants you to and that someone is God. We all have a purpose to fulfill, some of us grow up waking up to alarm clocks to reach work on time, to earn a living for our families; while others, wake up when they like, to live their lives the way they want to because they don’t care, but eventually we all wake up to achieve something in life. It is this awakening that directs us towards our purpose; otherwise we’re just aimlessly swimming in this vast ocean of life. When you wake up tomorrow, take a short moment to thank the Almighty for this wonderful gift of life and pray that you make the best of every moment of your day.
